Highway Bureau, MOTC
The Highway Bureau is committed to provincial highway engineering, highway transportation management and highway supervision, simplifying administration and facilitating the people. The business scope is divided into three categories: road engineering, road transportation and road supervision, providing convenient and safe services for the public.
Service Items
  1. A motorcycle driving license registration form with medical clearance confirmation (must be from public hospitals, health centers, or appointed hospitals, valid for one year).
  2. Three one-inch color photos with a glossy single-color background, without a hat, clear facial features, bust shot, taken within the past 2 years (no image synthesis).
  3. Identity documents:
    1. Nationals: National ID card or valid driving license.
    2. Foreigners: Proof of stay or alien residence permit valid for more than 6 months.
    3. Hong Kong/Macau residents: Alien residence permit valid for more than 6 months or entry/exit permit valid for more than 6 months.
    4. Diplomats: Staff pass and an official letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  4. Drivers with a general small vehicle license do not need a health examination if registering for the motorcycle road test within one year.
  5. Fees: General light motorcycle: NT$250 (includes written exam and road test); General heavy motorcycle: NT$250 (includes written exam and road test); NT$125 for the road test only; NT$125 for a re-test within one year after failure.
    1. NT$200 for collecting the driving license.
    2. Additional charge for the fuel used during the road test (waived if using own vehicle).
  6. Exam subjects: General heavy motorcycle- written exam and road test.
    1. General light motorcycle- written exam and road test.
  7. Notes: Do not register if any of the following apply:
    1. Under 18 years old.
    2. Less than 7 days since the last test.
    3. Failed the health examination.
    4. Re-test period for previously issued light or heavy motorcycle driving license is not due (includes ongoing suspension penalty).
    5. Permanently prohibited from applying for a driver’s license.
    6. Must pay overdue fines from traffic violations before retesting. If applying for installment payments, must pay the first installment before registration.
