Highway Bureau, MOTC
The Highway Bureau is committed to provincial highway engineering, highway transportation management and highway supervision, simplifying administration and facilitating the people. The business scope is divided into three categories: road engineering, road transportation and road supervision, providing convenient and safe services for the public.
Service Items
  1. One general automobile driving license registration form with an approved health examination and physical fitness test (completed at public hospitals or hospitals appointed by highway supervision authorities and valid for one year).
  2. Three one-inch color photos with a glossy single-color background, no hat, clear facial features, bust shot, taken within the past 2 years. No image synthesis.
  3. Identity documents:
    1. Nationals: National ID card or another valid driving license.
    2. Foreigners, people from Mainland China, or nationals without household registration in Taiwan must submit proof of stay or alien residence permit valid for more than 6 months.
    3. Residents of Hong Kong or Macau: Proof of alien residence permit valid for more than 6 months or entry/exit permit valid for more than 6 months.
    4. Diplomats and dependents: Submit staff pass and official letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the driving license test application.
  4. Proof of driving experience: Learner’s permit held for more than three months.
  5. Fees: Registration fee NT$450 (NT$225 for those retesting within one year).
    1. For only one subject of written exam or road test: NT$225.
    2. Additional charge for fuel used during the road test (waived if using your own vehicle).
  6. Exam subjects: Written test (traffic regulations) and road test.
  7. Notes: Driving license test can proceed after settling overdue traffic fines.
    1. For installment fine payments, the highway supervision authority will mark the driving license test registration after the first installment payment. Vehicle registration certificate required if using your own vehicle.
    2. Vehicle registration certificate must be valid.
    3. Private passenger vehicles must have a wheelbase of more than 230 cm if used for the test.
