Highway Bureau, MOTC
The Highway Bureau is committed to provincial highway engineering, highway transportation management and highway supervision, simplifying administration and facilitating the people. The business scope is divided into three categories: road engineering, road transportation and road supervision, providing convenient and safe services for the public.
Service Items

Since July 1, 2013, newly issued or renewed general and motorcycle driving licenses are exempt from renewal, except as specified in item 2 below. All licenses are valid until the holder's 75th birthday. Citizens older than 75 must renew their licenses every three years.

Professional drivers, foreigners without an alien residence permit, people from Mainland China, residents of Hong Kong or Macau, nationals without household registration in Taiwan, and those permanently prohibited from driving must apply for re-testing and obtain a one-year license. Renewal is required before expiration. Driving with an expired license is prohibited.

Required Documents:

  1. Any of the following identity documents:National ID card, military ID card, alien residence permit, or another valid driving license (a photocopy is acceptable if applied in person).
  2. The old driving license.
  3. One 1-inch color photo with a glossy, single-color background, no hat, clear facial features, bust shot, taken within the past 2 years. No image synthesis allowed.

Fees: NT$200 for the driving license.

Notes:

  1. Except for drivers younger than 75 who do not need periodic renewals, all others must renew their licenses one month before or after expiration. Drivers older than 75 must submit a qualified health examination report per Article 64 of the Regulations for Road Traffic Safety and proof of no moderate dementia or above.
  2. Pay off any outstanding fines or penalties before applying for license renewal.
  3. If a professional driving license is due for review, handle the review simultaneously.
